Winged Whispers

Dreven, Shadokhan - Rumor has it that winged creatures, called Seleventi, visited the Crosswinds Tavern. Witness say three landed on the roof, but only one entered. Struggling to pull his large form and huge wings into the room, he attempted to leave some sort to message for the patrons.

He sang in strange notes and there are conflicts on what he was trying to say. Some believe he was predicting the downfall of the rebels in Luminii. While others report he was complaining about the cutting down of trees outside of Dreven. Regardless of his message, the event brings questions.

Why was the winged one delivering any kind of message to people sitting in a tavern? The fact that it was presented there brings question to the reliability of the communication. If the Seleventi had anything of importance to report he would have presented it to the officials. Singing to a group holding wine glasses or ale does little to change events or notify anyone.

Was it the ranting of one single birdman?

Most Seleventi live within the boundaries of Cloosidian. Even those who have moved from those mountains seem to be returning to their homelands. Scholars suggest it is a wild primal call back to their nests for the Battle for the Crown of Four Winds. This grand event occurs every twenty-five years and determines the Seleventi Flock or Tribe that rules over all other Seleventi. It is a barbaric battle that ends with only one survivor.

As the Seleventi gather for this battle their hostility toward human's increases. Some who study the species believe this is an instinctive behavior. Others claim it is just an excuse for violent behavior against the minority, humans, within the region.

Perhaps the Seleventi who sang inside the tavern was only warning humans to leave the region alone. Or maybe he was threatening the citizens of Dreven.

We, the citizens of Shadokahan, should pay close attention to the activities of these strange violent beings that share our border.

Changes in Luminii?

Luminii - While the rumors of Luminii being run over by Rebel forces lead by Orazio SanGiamonico are largely exaggerated, some other rumors which have come to our attention may have a much truer ring to them.

While SanGiamonico is riding to his doom, somebody else is plotting behind the scenes. Nobody else but the lovely, unmarried Nadiya Galyn has taken the reigns of the Allied League of Farmers firmly into her soft hands in his absence. Who knew she had such political ambitions! She is becoming quite the catch and more than a few young men have expressed romantic interest in the young Lady - or could it be her vineyards?

This may be just the change needed to prove the nasty rumors about Luminii being taken over by thugs to be untrue and put them to rest. We are hopeful Nadiya Galyn will prove herself and the ALF will once again become trusted and respected.

Victory at Morgaine Pass

Morgaine, Luminii - Final news of the victory at the Pass has reached us. The superior forces send to liberate the Pass and the small town could report back to us that it was done with minimal loss to civilian life and very tolerable loss to our Soldiers.

The worst damage was done by the Rebels, since they booby-trapped the Pass and even set their own troops on fire in a desperate, but ill-fated attempt to cling on their position. Our hearts go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in this confrontation. For a complete list of the killed or wounded Soldiers, please contract your local Guard.

Editors note: Baron Streylan is reported to have returned home in good health.

Disturbances During Mooncalling Festivities

Dreven, Shadokhan - News of frightening and disturbing events during the Festival of Mooncalling has reached our reporters from all over Shadokhan. Eyewitnesses once again peg the infamous Crosswinds Tavern as the starting source of the unholy events during this dark night. A pair of hooligans started their ghoulish festivities at the tavern and ended their ghastly entertainment just outside the wall of Dreven at dawn.

The pair in question, eyewitness's talk of a petite well-dressed woman and a rather giant-sized, ill-tempered male companion left a trail of frightened folks, uprooted trees, overturned coaches and damaged barns in their wake. Unconfirmed reports claim our brave men of the guard were under attack by the huge Male at the Crosswind Tavern, before he joined with his female counterpart and headed towards our beloved city. The Patrol stationed at the Crosswind would not confirm or denied the rumors of an attack on the tavern and played the incident down.

This humble reporter's opinion is that the aura and mystery of the Festival in question, partnered with a few people having indulged a bit too much in the local brew, may have played a part in how the "mysterious and dangerous" pair was portrayed in the days following Mooncalling. So far, no further sightings have been reported and it may have been a rather well-planned spoof after all.

Warehouse Fire Devastates Dendry Hill

Dendry Hill, Shadokhan - Beginning of Chillset a warehouse fire had devastated the town of Dendry hill, located west of Dreven, and its people. It was a miracle, credited to the quick reaction of the towns Mayor Feln Archer, that the famous library of Dendry Municipal College escaped the hungry flames.

Three buildings were burned to the ground and more then a few damaged during the quickly spreading firestorm. The content of one of the warehouse, a recent shipment of parchment and reed paper, may have large contributed to size of the blaze. An investigation by the local Guards has found this to be an accidental fire and quickly deflated any rumors about sabotage. The official guilty party was an oil lamp left unattended overnight.

More Trouble Coming From the Northern Borders?

Shadokhan - Take heart, gentle readers, and keep a watchful eye towards our northern borders.

While we already brought you news of strange winged messengers appearing around Dreven, we may be in for more troublesome visitors in the near future. To our dismay, the fearless and battle-proven Captain Tharius has left his former station in Balthazor.

Who will protect us from the hordes of the Undead to our north now? Will his replacement take as much heart and spill as much guts as Captain Tharius? In the wake of the news of his transfer, a few eyewitnesses swear they have noticed a Necromancer stalking people in the River District already. Are Necromancers seeking shelter in our City now? Maybe they are driven out of Balthazor by the infamous Belladonna Sodality? Could they be afraid their fate could follow the same path of the Black Branch Knights? We have spared no expense and sent one of our own up to our neighboring country in the north to investigate, and he could not find a sign of any surviving member of the Black Knights. He states all evidence points to the fact that all the houses of the Nobles were lost in the battle of the Undead.

One wonders if the Belladonna Sodality has set foot back into Dreven as well. If they did, it could take care of the Elf Problem, could it not?

Do Arborian Spies Walk Amongst Us?

Like the weather, Arboria gives us hard-working and honest people of Shadokhan the cold shoulder. Again and again, news of merchants being turned away, taken or even attacked at or near the Arborian borders has reached our ears. What has the Elven Nation to hide? Whispers speak of human genocide and other atrocities inside the vast woodlands. Or could it be worse and the Arborians plan to expand their ideas of Elven purity into our borders?

The Gazette would like to point out, dear gentle readers; more than one Elf finds him or herself still on the wanted list for attacks against our Ruler and for High Treason against the laws of our beloved land. It is know to us that a few Elven Merchants have large holdings in Dreven itself. Maybe they are to blame for the recent price hike in some of the goods found at the Market.

To add to the list, word is getting around that a new Elf has been making the rounds of the high and mighty in Thermador and Luminii. This Elf in question was first sighted at a recent Ball in Thermador, walking amongst the Elite and Nobles, and words have been whispered that he even dared to insult one of our finest Captains, Captain Tharius. One may wonder if he has any connections with the wanted list here in Dreven. After all, he chose to voice his opinion about our great Leader in a rather rude manner. One can concur he may be upset; his Spies have been discovered and not too pleased to learn justice will be served in our realm. Not even an Elf can escape it!

Bab's Gossip

by Bab L. Ling

Interesting news on Dreven's social scene this season. Anyone who is anyone showed at Baron Kerram's soiree last cycle to show off his newest home and wife. It appeared to be a contest of extravagance, each lady trying to outdo the others. Baroness Dorina, Kerram's wife, however, outshone the others in her elegant silken turquoise gown. The surprise of the evening was the late arrival of Lady Alene DuCorsi. Having vanished from the social scene years before when her husband died, she returned to the public on the arms of a man half her age. His identity still a mystery, it was obvious from his bearing that he was a man of consequence. Showing no favorites, he danced through the evening with each lady present. One has to wonder if Lady Alene enjoyed his company 'after' the celebration wound down.

Dreven wasn't the only land to celebrate the season. Wadi Medani held the annual Festival of Lights for a ten-day, concluding with a masqued ball hosted by Versaisna Lucair, the Arch-Mage of Thermador. Nonetheless, one has to speculate on if the fire has gone out of the relationship with his beautiful wife, Taven. Lovely as always, she appeared to prefer the company of the younger men at the ball.

Weather Vane

The local druid predicts continued bitter cold weather as the New Year begins and warns to postpone any prolonged activities outside without the proper garb. Travel should be kept to close to home, since we can expect an increase in strong snowstorms during Earthfreeze, but Yearpass should dawn very cold and clear. So don't forget your critters outside, drop them the leftovers from your Yearpass feast, and make sure all livestock has a warm place to stay in the coming cycle.

Letter to the Editor

People love dirt. Perhaps it helps them feel better about themselves to hear of someone else's pain. Or power to have a hand in crushing another's life. Battle is like that. It's all about numbers. Winners and losers. Crushing or being crushed. The truth is, there are no winners. Death is part of life, perhaps. But how can a land claim to promote life, when it kills to obtain it? How can law be for the people when it's only words, and the people forgotten? How can anyone think to lead, when they murder those whom they would rule? So next time someone speaks of a great battle, think not of winners and losers. Remember those who died in fighting for what they believed in. Don't search for dirt. Mourn for the families of those who gave their lives. Mourn for the wants, needs, hopes, and fears that were cut short by a blade. Remember always: life promotes life.
